The Palmetto Amateur Radio Club was formed on the campus of the University of South Carolina in 1928 by the Chair of the Physics Department, A. Courtenay Carson. W4MN was Carson's callsign. The club is currently active in partnership with W4DFG, the Dutch Fork Amateur Radio Group in Little Mountain, SC.
